Apply for the taxi transport subsidy scheme

Introduction

The taxi transport subsidy scheme (TTSS) supports NSW residents who are unable to use public transport because of a severe and permanent disability.

If you’re eligible, you could receive a subsidy of 50% of a taxi fare, up to a maximum subsidy of $60 and only pay the remaining fare. This includes travel in wheelchair accessible taxis.

Eligibility

To apply for the TTSS, you must:

  • be a permanent resident of Australia
  • normally reside in NSW
  • not be a member of a similar scheme in another Australian state or territory
  • be over school age (preschool-aged children, regardless of disability, are not eligible)

More information

  • The TTSS is a docket system. If your application is successful you’ll be sent dockets specific to your needs.
  • One travel docket can be used per journey. You give the driver a completed docket for 50% of the fare up to $60, and you pay the remaining fare.
  • Each application is reviewed by Transport for NSW’s independent medical assessor, so it’s important that your medical practitioner or treating specialist provides enough detail and supporting documents so the severity of your disability or medical condition can be accurately assessed.
  • If you’re receiving treatment or undergoing rehabilitation which is expected to improve your condition, you’re not eligible for the scheme.
  • The National Disability Insurance Scheme does not change the way customers use their TTSS dockets.
  • Transport for NSW reserves the right to decline your application if you have previously been suspended or removed from the NSW Scheme or a similar scheme in another state or territory.
